hybrid showcase
seminar at ABK stuttgart: hybrid exhibitions and ergonomics of new media
The hybrid showcase is the new typology in the exhibition and retail sector. Its strength is the fusion of digital and physical space. The Advanced Media Seminar in the Department of Architecture dealt with the design and presentation of this hybrid architectural form.
The specific task in the seminar was to develop a hybrid exhibition for the Weißenhofsiedlung. Building-related mini-landmarks in the publicly accessible area of the housing complex were to refer to digitally prepared and accessible content available there. Visitors can thus take a look behind the scenes (or behind the hedges) of these exhibits for the first time through digitally enhanced interaction - without losing the visual reference to the physical exhibit. Depending on prior knowledge and interest, building culture and history should be conveyed individually to the user.
The seminar was divided into three phases: First, we looked at how these hybrid typologies work, then we learned about the tools from our architect's toolbox that we can use to design them. Finally, we combined what we had learned in order to be able to present these typologies appropriately - and also to communicate their interactive potential.
