concept

The city of weil am rhein is paning a new residential complex next to the prestigious site of the vitra campus. The competition includes a diverse mixed-use concept with a focus on housing. The competition site is located in the immediate vicinity of the Vitracampus. The concept of the design is based on 3 pillars to create a strong identity: Individuality, community and sustainability.

layout

The internal layout of the building program is designed to promote the community of residents and enable them to identify strongly with their spatial environment. The various housing types offer a variety of typologies aimed at a wide range of users. The objective is to create a uniform appearance between liberal housing and subsidized social housing, whereby the differences are subtly reflected in the apartment sizes and fit-out standards.

timber-hybrid

The system of diverse façade/balcony modules offers residents an expression of individuality. The rhythm of the apartment mix crea-tes an interplay between loggias and balconies with integrated plant troughs, climbing aids, shading elements, etc. The building is planned as a timber hybrid construction. The core of the building is made of solid concrete. The residential storeys enthro-ned above are planed in timber construction. The duality of the cons-truction methods is also reflected in the materials of the façade (plinth and top).
